Oceana County Company Gets Help to Train Employees

(Hart, MI)  GHSP is globally located with headquarters in Grand Haven, Michigan they also have a plant in the small rural town of Hart, Michigan which is located in Oceana County. They are an automotive and premium appliance supply company that specializes in vehicle shift systems, smart pumps and electronic controls. The company had recently undergone numerous leadership position changes in a very short period of time at both plants.

Michigan Works! West Central was able to assist the company in applying for the Going Pro Talent Fund for leadership training. GHSP received $26,000 through the Going PRO Talent Fund, to train 36 employees at both plants. More than 30 supervisors were trained and awarded certifications in Lean Executive Leadership. Another six employees were trained in Lean Systems, and several also received the leadership training as well.

“We had recently went through a leadership change and we needed help to bring us to together” said Michelle Hanks, GHSP Corporate Continuous Improvement Manager.

Going Por Talent Fund Award Check

“This training really helped us focus on the human side of things,” said GHSP Hart Plant Manager Bob Dault. “How to culturalize things, how to break down barriers and how to apply it.” When asked what would happen if you invest employees and they leave, Dault’s response was, “What if you invest in them and they don’t leave. As an employer you owe it to your employees to help them grow and develop, it’s one of the most rewarding things we do.”
