STTF Application Period Has Closed
Skilled Trades Training Fund (STTF)
Governor Snyder and the state legislature appropriated $29,000,000 for the Skilled Trades Training Fund (STTF) this year! This was the fifth year the fund was available to employers. This year's Open Application Period began on Monday September 18th and ended Friday October 6th. Michigan Works! West Central helped nearly 40 companies apply for funding for employers to upgrade the skills of their current workforce! Award recipients should be announced by December 1st.
Here are a few examples of skilled trades training utilized by our local companies:
- Blue Print Reading
- Maintenance Troubleshooting
- USDOL REGISTERED APPRENTICESHIPS!
Since the program began, 50% of the awards have gone to companies with less than 100 employees and 38% to companies with 500 or less. And since its inception in 2014, Michigan Works! West Central has helped secure nearly $1,000,000 for 19 different companies in our six-county service area! That equates to the training of nearly 1,500 workers! And this year, as in the past, additional funds were also available to help pay for USDOL registered apprenticeships.
