skilled trades training fund (sttf)
Governor Snyder and the state legislature appropriated $29,000,000 for the Skilled Trades Training Fund (STTF) this year! This was the fifth year the fund was available to employers. This year's Open Application Period began on Monday September 18th and ended Friday October 6th. Applications can only be filed through Michigan Works! and this year we helped nearly 40 companies apply for funding for employers to upgrade the skills of their current workforce! Award recipients were announced November 29th.
Since the program began, 50% of the awards have gone to companies with less than 100 employees and approximately 38% to companies with 500 or less. And since its inception in 2014, Michigan Works! West Central has helped secure nearly $2,000,000 for 40 different companies in our six-county service area! That equates to the training of more than 2,000 workers including funding for 47 USDOL registered apprenticeships! For a list of companies and trainings that have been approved click here.
