skilled trades training fund (sttf)

The Skilled Trades Training Fund (STTF) program provides competitive awards to employers for training leading to increased employee productivity and increased competitiveness of Michigan businesses. Governor Snyder and the state legislature have appropriated $29,000,000 for the Skilled Trades Training Fund (STTF) this year! This will be the fifth year this fund has been available to employers, and Michigan Works! West Central is here to help your company apply for some of this funding to train new employees or upgrade the skills of your current workforce!  This year's Open Application Period begins on Monday September 18th and runs through Friday October 6th. The grant process is extremely competitive, so a complete and accurate application is critical.

Your STTF application can only be submitted by representatives from Michigan Works! To start the application process please feel free to contact us directly. We are happy to meet with you to help you step-by-step through the process and can answer any questions you may have.

For questions please call Business Services Director Merri Bennet at 231-583-2029 or send an email to mbennett@michworkswc.org.

Here are a few examples of skilled trades training utilized by our local companies:

Over the four years of this program, 50% of the awards have gone to companies with less than 100 employees and 38% to companies with 500 or less. And since its inception in 2014, West Central has helped secure nearly $1,000,000 for 19 different companies in our six-county service areaThat equates to the training of nearly 1,500 workers!  And this year, as in the past, additional funds are also available to help pay for USDOL registered apprenticeships.
